What is Shamanism?
‘Shaman’ is Siberian word meaning Energy Worker.
I like the term Shaman as it is ancient, and implies someone who is a healer, but who has deeper training and access to the other realms of life.
Shamanism is a state of ‘connected consciousness’.
It is a moment by moment unfolding of Grace, involving cleaning and clearing of energy.
Shamanism is about being in a natural expanded state of deep interconnectedness with the seen and unseen veils of the world. The practice is then about receiving, allowing and implementing.
When I am being a ‘practicing Shaman’ I am consciously ‘connecting’
Firstly, with my Healing Team and with Love as a principle of active energy, secondly, with my clients physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies, then with their soul’s purpose, and finally with any relevant guides or others as appropriate for their session.
I am then in an active (connected) space of ‘allowing Love’. In this way I might say I was being a channel for Love, which allows intelligence and overview far beyond human perspective.
Being a Shaman is uplifting and inspiring.
Stagnant and un-useful energy patterns are cleansed.
Shamanism supports the interconnectedness of the universe, our planet, and each individual person, animal, plant and energetic form, as unique and valuable. It works with the principles and protection of the Medicine Wheel and Circle - in which we are all equal, to empower - rather than have power ‘over’.
Deep personal knowing of the self creates empowerment and access to the heart. This allows love and respect to come forward as outcomes /actions.
Changes are not based on ‘will’ or on an arbitrary choice made in the head, but are ‘arrived’ at from deep integration of all the aspects of the self. Change is brought forward in alignment with the whole of the spiritual/material world, from the physical body (health, weight, fitness) to employment and empowerment within family structures - and so on.
In Tom Brown Jr’s book ‘Awakening Spirits’ he describes the skill of a shaman like this;
“A shaman must be able to communicate with the Earth and spirit worlds, must be able to take Spirit Journeys, and most of all, must be able to heal the Earth and its people. The communications, the journeys, and the healing must be guided by Inner Vision, have a pure purpose, a strong Sacred Silence and Envisioning process, and most of all, the shaman must have a profound, unwavering belief in what he or she is doing. So, too, are we but vessels, bridges, for the life forces to flow through. It is not we who are healing, but the power of creation and the Creator. All we can ever hope to do is to be a pure and empty vessel and obey the commands given unto us.”
